The Redbourn & District Ploughing Match and Root, Corn and Hay Show was held at Upper Wood Farm on the Gaddesden Estate on Saturday 6th October, having been postponed for a month because of the late harvest. There was very heavy rain overnight, so although the match took place in glorious sunshine ground conditions were not ideal, with water lying in the furrows in Signpost Field, where the vintage tractors were ploughing. In Well Field, where the modern tackle performed, conditions were better. The estate was represented by several people, who have connection with us, and we are delighted that one of our retired staff, Mick Matthews, won the overall cup for the vintage ploughing and goes forward to the Hertfordshire County Match.
